dB CONTROL AWARDED $9.2M FOR POWER-COMBINED TWTAs AND SUPPORT PROGRAMS FOR MILITARY RADAR, EW, ECM APPLICATIONS
US Navy Awards $6.6M for Radar Systems Spares/Repairs and $1.1M for Power-Combined TWTAs; Asian Customer Awards $1.5M Order for TWTA Upgrade Program
Fremont, Calif. – November 29, 2024 – dB Control, a supplier of mission-critical (often sole-source) products worldwide to military organizations, major defense contractors, and commercial manufacturers, was awarded three contracts worth a total of $9.2 million for TWT Amplifiers and Power-Combined TWTAs to support the US Navy’s electronic warfare (EW) airborne and ground-based applications. The company also received a $1.5 million order from a customer in Asia to upgrade its TWTA program. The power products will be used to help military forces increase their control of the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum and stay ahead of evolving threats, boost jamming capabilities and disrupt adversarial EW tactics.
“As demonstrated by the multiple large orders we’ve announced this year, TWTAs are still the best solution for high-RF power applications. They’re efficient, cover a wide bandwidth, and operate reliably in extreme conditions. This makes them especially well-suited for defense applications,” said Mike Lee, dB Control Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
dB Control will showcase its TWTAs in Booth 415 at the AOC 24 International Symposium and Convention, December 11-14 in National Harbor, MD. The company’s ongoing investment in research and development has produced several unique TWTA developments. For example, the power-combined TWTA ordered by the US Navy uses multiple wideband, periodic permanent magnet (PPM)-focused TWTs to amplify CW, AM, FM or pulse-modulated signals. Compared to a single TWT approach, a power-combined TWTA provides higher saturated output power and improved harmonic performance. Losses from power combining are minimized by carefully matching the TWTs and other RF components for amplitude and phase over the entire frequency range.
dB Control offers eight power-combined TWTAs operating in the 2 GHz to 18 GHz frequency range that provide from 3.4 kW to 15 kW of output power. With only one RF input and one RF output (similar to amplifiers utilizing a single TWT), power-combined TWTAs are extremely easy to operate with no RF switches required. Model numbers and additional specifications for dB Control products can be found in the company’s Datasheet Library.
About dB Control
Established in 1990, dB Control supplies mission-critical (often sole-source) products worldwide to military organizations, major defense contractors, and commercial manufacturers. The company designs and manufactures reliable high- and low-voltage power supplies, high-power TWT Amplifiers (TWTAs), microwave power modules (MPMs), transmitters for radar, electronic countermeasures (ECM) and communication applications on airborne, maritime, and ground-based military platforms. After acquiring TTT-Cubed in 2019, Paciwave in 2021, and Charter Engineering in 2022, dB Control expanded its product line to offer coaxial EM and pin diode RF switches, specialized RF/microwave components, integrated microwave subsystems, and custom radio frequency (RF) receivers and sources. dB Control also provides specialized contract manufacturing and repair depot services from its 40,000-square-foot facility in Fremont, California. The company is AS 9100D and ISO 9001:2015 certified. More information is available at www.dBControl.com or by calling 1-510-656-2325.
