Defense Electronics Manufacturer Hires Locally, Positions Fremont as Innovation Hotspot
Fremont, Calif. – February 24, 2014 – dB Control, a defense electronics manufacturer, will host Congressman Eric Swalwell (D – CA) and Mayor Bill Harrison for a facility tour and town hall meeting with employees. dB Control is committed to helping Mayor Harrison position Fremont as Silicon Valley’s center for manufacturing. The visit comes at a time when the company maintains a strong outlook despite defense budget cuts, and supports job development in the Fremont manufacturing sector.
“We believe the defense industry will play an important role in developing new jobs, especially considering the financial stability of the specific market niches we serve – such as unmanned aerial vehicles and high-power radar systems. As our business grows, it makes sense to support our city’s growth too,” said dB Control President Fred Ortiz.
According to the California Employment Development Department, the unemployment rate in the Oakland-Fremont-Hayward Metropolitan District was 6.3 percent in December 2013, down from a revised 6.8 in November 2013. City officials hope to continue this reduction in unemployment with the creation of 12,000 new jobs and 3,000 new housing units as a result of this developing manufacturing hub and new Fremont BART station. To ensure that dB Control can hire from the local labor pool, the company collaborates with regional colleges on internship programs. Several interns from Heald and DeVry have been hired as full-time technicians and now work on some of dB Control’s largest government and commercial projects. The company maintains a 95 percent employee retention rate.
